PanaVise Timeline - History
1956 • Tool and die maker Otto Colbert founded Colbert Industries, Inc. (later to be called PanaVise Products, Inc.). To make his work easier, Otto needed to tilt, turn and rotate his die casting dies for repair. Thus, the famous insplit ballin base was developed and patented.
1963 • PanaVise begins exporting its products. Today PanaVise can be found in 25 plus countries around the world.
1972 • PanaVise receives its second patent on the now famous 300 standard base.
1974 • PanaVise develops a Circuit Board Holder as an interchangeable head for the 300 base, and becomes a instandardin in the electronics tool industry.
1978 • Colbert Industries is purchased by Gary Richter, the current PanaVise president. The name of the company is changed to PanaVise Products, Inc. and is relocated to Long Beach, California.
1980 • PanaVise begins supplying mounts using the famous insplit ballin to FedEx for their Mobile Data Terminals. This becomes the largest installed base of Mobile Data Terminals in the world, all held by PanaVise.
1981 • PanaVise develops its first Mobile Phone Mount for Xyntel. This product later evolves into the PanaVise 320 Standard Phone Mount.
1982 • PanaVise builds special mounts and bases for use in the U.S. space shuttle program.
1988 • PanaVise develops the Slimline Cell Phone Mount, which becomes the most successful product ever developed by PanaVise.
1990 • PanaVise relocates from Long Beach, California to the high desert of Sparks, Nevada. This expands corporate facilites to 29,000 square feet.
1991 • PanaVise enters the CCTV and Security industry with their own line of CCTV and Security Camera Mounts. Another PanaVise frontier is forged.
1992 • The PanaVise 300 Base is redesigned once more to increase its holding power by 100% and it receives its third U.S. Patent on the insplit ballin design.
1994 • PanaVise develops the PV Jr line of miniature vises, which quickly becomes the fastest selling Vise in its product line.
1995 • PanaVise enters into the Sound industry with a new line of Speaker Mounts. A natural off shoot from their already successful line of Cell Phone Mounts, CCTV, and Security Camera Mounts.
1996 • PanaVise celebrates its 40th Anniversary. Ground is broken on a new 58,000 square foot manufacturing and administrative facility in Reno, Nevada.
1997 • PanaVise moves all of its employees into the new facility in Reno, Nevada. Shortly there after the street PanaVise is located on is renamed Colbert Drive in honor of our founder.
2000 • PanaVise designs the 709 Window Mount for a Delphi Automotive product. This becomes the spring board for PanaVise quickly becoming recognized around the world as the quality leader in suction cup-window mounts for Mobile Electronics in vehicles.
2006 • PanaVise celebrates it's 50th Anniversary. PanaVise is issued a U.S. design patent on it's fast selling Model 809 Window Mount
2007 • To better serve it's fast growing OEM market in Asia, PanaVise establishes PanaVise Tool (Changzhou), LLC in Changzhou, China
2011 • PanaVise debuted its Newsletter, 'GRIP news' including PanaVise’s up and coming endeavors and events, as well as keep the reader connected to the industry and new products.
• PanaVise is the winner of the 2011 'Most Repair Friendly' MAKEY Award.
2012 • PanaVise introduces the Model: 207, the Vise Buddy Jr. It instantly transforms any bench vise into a precision vise without changing workstations.
• Featured on a new show called ‘Look 4 USA’ that focuses on companies that manufacture locally in the U.S. and specifically in Reno, NV for their premier episode.
• PanaVise introduces the ‘PanaVise Maker Faire Patch’, designed to collect at the annual Maker Faire Tradeshow.
2013 • Introducing Model: 15575, The NEW PortaGRIP® Phone Holder. Designed for today’s smartphone with large touchscreens, thin bezels, and various button and charging port configurations, the new PanaVise PortaGRIP is the latest product in the 20+ history of PanaVise phone holders under the PortaGRIP name.
2014 • PanaVise suction cup mounts are approved for Electronic Flight Bags.
• PanaVise launches its newest camera mount line designed specifically for action cameras. Model 13150, PanaVise’s ActionGrip 3-N-1 Suction Cup Camera Mount Kit is designed for users that want the unique angles and shots that create exciting video.
• PanaVise is the winner of the 2014 SEMA Global Media Award.
2015 • Introducing Model: 13220, The handlebar mount. Designed with one objective in mind, to grip a bar better than any other camera bar mount on the market.
2016 • 2016 marks PanaVise’s 60th Anniversary!
2017 • PanaVise launches its new line of Powersports mounts, designed for both standard handlebars as well as larger handlebars and roll bars.
